PathAI AISight vs Sectra Pathology
A hospital group that already reads radiology in Sectra and wants pathology in the same viewer takes Sectra, a Stockholm-listed company founded in 1978. Its Digital Pathology Module holds 510(k) clearances from March 2020 and April 2024. Sectra builds no AI of its own and sells third-party apps through one contract.
A pathology department that wants a cloud-native system takes PathAI. AISight Dx was cleared in June 2025 for primary diagnosis of FFPE surgical pathology slides on the Hamamatsu NanoZoomer S360MD and the Leica Aperio GT 450 DX, and a change control plan lets PathAI add scanners without a new 510(k). It also carries CE-IVD marking for the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Its algorithms are research use.
For a US lab standardized on the Hamamatsu scanner, Sectra falls behind. The April 2024 clearance names the Leica GT 450 DX and a specified Dell display, and no Hamamatsu pairing is listed in the sources. Roche's agreement to acquire PathAI is expected to close in the second half of 2026.
