Scite's pricing page lists no free plan. Basic is $12 per month billed yearly and Pro is $40 per month billed yearly, each with a 7-day trial. Connected Papers gives 5 graphs a month at no cost, then Academic at EUR 4.23 per month billed annually.
Connected Papers arranges papers by similarity to one origin paper, so a fellow charting the field around a seed paper is its buyer. Scite's Smart Citations show whether later papers support, contrast or only mention a cited finding, across what the vendor puts at 322M+ articles, and it connects to Zotero and, through MCP, to Claude or ChatGPT. A resident checking whether a cited study held up gets nothing of that from Connected Papers, so the free graphs do not help that buyer.
A librarian treating the labels as a verdict would be misled. Library guides from Calgary, Einstein and FSU say the labels can be wrong and coverage varies by field.
