DAX Copilot vs ScribeMD
DAX Copilot, now sold as Microsoft Dragon Copilot, publishes Epic requirements: the May 2025 release or later and coordination with Epic Technical Services. Microsoft's security white paper lists HITRUST CSF for the Azure environment. A reseller, Dictation Direct, quotes $369 per user per month plus $700 one-time implementation on a 12-month commitment (currency not stated). A randomized trial of 238 physicians at UCLA, published in NEJM AI, found the DAX arm spent 1.7% less time in notes, not significant at P=0.66. Epic sites are the setting its requirements documentation covers.
ScribeMD states HIPAA compliance, BAAs in place, a SOC 2 badge, AWS KMS encryption at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit. Its pricing page lists "Free forever" for an individual doctor and a custom Enterprise contract for groups, clinics and health systems. A single physician or small group starting without a contract fits that structure.
For a health system already contracted with Microsoft, a Microsoft blog says DAX audio and transcripts fall under the hospital's existing HIPAA BAA with Microsoft.
