Bayesian Health vs Epic Sepsis Model

openFDA's 510(k) record lists K250680, a Class II clearance dated April 30, 2026, for Bayesian Health's sepsis flag and lists no clearance for the Epic Sepsis Model. Epic holds K260008, which covers a different model, the Deterioration Index Version 2.

Michigan Medicine's 38,455 hospitalizations gave the first version an AUROC of 0.63, with 67% of sepsis cases missed while 18% of hospitalizations drew an alert. The updated version reached 0.82 to 0.92 across four systems in a 2026 prospective validation, with positive predictive value of 0.13 to 0.26 and a high alert burden. The only alert-volume figure for Bayesian is the vendor's homepage claim of alerts 20 times fewer than Epic's algorithm at one customer, and it is unverified.

An Epic hospital that wants a score delivered within its existing license has a reason to stay put. For a sepsis committee weighing a published positive predictive value of 0.13 to 0.26, the Epic model is the weaker pick on the evidence it has.
