C8 Health vs Epic Sepsis Model

openFDA lists no record for C8 Health or the Epic Sepsis Model. Epic's one clearance, K260008 from September 2026, covers Deterioration Index Version 2, a different model.

Several independent studies cover the Epic Sepsis Model. A 2021 JAMA Internal Medicine study of 38,455 hospitalizations at Michigan Medicine found a hospitalization-level AUROC of 0.63, with 67% of sepsis cases missed and alerts on 18% of hospitalizations. An emergency department study of 35,076 encounters in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine (2025) found AUROC 0.77 for version 1 and 0.90 for version 2. A 2026 multicentre prospective study of version 2 across four systems still reported PPV of 0.13 to 0.26 and a high alert burden. C8's one PubMed paper is a 2026 usability survey of 142 MetroHealth anesthesiology clinicians, co-written by C8's chief medical officer. Its outcome figures come from the vendor's proof library.

An Epic hospital's sepsis committee gets the score inside the EHR, delivered within Epic licensing. C8 Health, which calls itself a care consistency platform, is sold separately to health systems with no public price.
