Epic Sepsis Model vs Glass Health
Epic's sepsis model rates adult inpatients and ED patients every 15 minutes inside the EHR, with alert thresholds each hospital sets, and Epic shows no separate price for it. A hospital's informatics team configures it. Glass Health is bought by the clinician or clinic using it, with Lite at $0 per month and ad-sponsored, Starter at $20, Pro at $90 ad-free and Max at $200, all in USD. Only Max includes assisted EHR workflows for Epic, eClinicalWorks, athenahealth and Elation.
Glass says it provides a cited differential, must-not-miss flags and an ambient scribe, drawing on a knowledge base of 38M+ citations. A 2024 comparison by Finelli in The Neurologist ran four NEJM cases. Glass's AI got 1 of 4 right, ChatGPT-4 got 0 of 4 and a diagnostic generator got 4 of 4, in a small, non-randomized comparison. The company is Y Combinator W23 with a $5M seed round led by Initialized Capital.
Epic's score has outside validations: an AUROC of 0.63 in Michigan Medicine's 2021 study, and a positive predictive value of 0.13 to 0.26 for the updated version in a 2026 four-system study.
