Evidence-based clinical reference from EBSCO with Dyna AI, a generative Q&A add-on, and Epic integration.
Individual plan from the EBSCO store. integrates with Epic.
Bottom line
DynaMed is an evidence-graded clinical reference from EBSCO Health, and Dyna AI is a question-and-answer layer added on top of it. The base product costs $399 a year and the version with Dyna AI $475, both for individuals in USD. It suits a clinician who values transparent evidence grading and has access through a hospital or library. A clinician who wants the strongest generative answers will be disappointed, since Clinical AI Report's physician reviewers say the AI lags AI-native tools.
What is in the product line?
EBSCO Health sells three things under related names. DynaMed is the reference, with evidence summaries across more than 35 medical specialties that the vendor says are "updated multiple times daily," plus CME and MOC tracking. DynaMed Decisions adds individual risk calculators and tailored guidance. DynaMedex adds drug and dosing content from Micromedex. It was renamed on 11 October 2022 from "DynaMed and Micromedex with Watson."
Dyna AI answers natural-language questions using retrieval-augmented generation over curated EBSCO content. EBSCO launched it on 23 July 2024 and released "Dyna AI Mode" in February 2026. A December 2025 release brought Micromedex dosing and medication-safety content into Dyna AI. Micromedex stays under separate ownership and reaches DynaMedex through a partnership.
EBSCO Information Services is based in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and is a division of EBSCO Industries, a private company in Birmingham, Alabama, founded in 1944. The Editor in Chief is Roy Ziegelstein, MD. A daily alerts feed carries guideline summaries and evidence updates marked "Potentially Practice-Changing."
What does it cost?
At $399 per year for DynaMed and $475 per year with Dyna AI, in USD, EBSCO's store prices the AI tier $76 above the base. Dyna AI is sold to individuals only in the USA, with a 14-day free trial. Hospitals and libraries buy institutional access at prices that are not public. Prescriber.io describes DynaMed alone as institutional with a 30-day trial and a 60-day refund, which differs from EBSCO's store.
How does it fit into an EHR?
DynaMed Decisions has been in the Epic App Orchard since June 2021, built on SMART on FHIR. EBSCO's Ask Avo, a separate tool, embeds DynaMed knowledge in Epic, athenahealth and MEDITECH. The product also offers embedded links, an HL7 Infobutton API, search widgets and a web services API. Reference content carries no patient data by default.
Does Dyna AI work well?
EBSCO says "over 95%" of reviewed AI responses were high quality and under 0.1% were flagged for bias. The outside evidence concerns the earlier, pre-AI product: a 2021 Toronto crossover study of DynaMed Plus rated it about equal to UpToDate, 1.36 against 1.35 on a 2-point scale.
Clinical AI Report ranks DynaMed seventh with 3.5 out of 5 from 17 physician reviews. Reviewers say the AI lags AI-native tools, the interface looks dated, and there is no free tier. Comparison sites praise the transparent evidence grading and strong adoption in hospitals and libraries.
EBSCO says DynaMedex was named 2026 Best in KLAS for clinical decision support. A KLAS product listing describes limited market share and no ranking.
The verdict
DynaMed at $399 is the product to buy for a clinician who mostly looks up evidence grades, and the reference content scored even with UpToDate in the 2021 study of its earlier version. The AI tier adds $76 a year and has EBSCO's own quality figures behind it. A resident or attending who wants the strongest generative answers is better served by an AI-native tool, and a buyer who needs peer-reviewed evidence on Dyna AI itself has only EBSCO's figures to go on.
