Epocrates vs Medscape Drug Interaction Checker
Medscape's checker takes several drugs at once and returns interactions in five tiers, from Contraindicated to Minor, with the mechanism such as CYP450 inhibition or induction. Third-party comparisons call it free, so a pharmacy student or researcher can start there. A night-float resident who also needs doses, calculators and disease guidance on a phone gets more from Epocrates, and Medscape is the one to drop for that job. GetApp and prescriber.io describe a free registered tier for Epocrates, with epocrates+ at $24.99 per month or $179.99 per year above it. On accuracy, a 2016 comparison counted 250 of 400 interactions for Epocrates and 202 for Medscape, on versions a decade old. A herb and oncology drug screening study did name Medscape the best free tool, behind Lexicomp.
