What is it and who sells it?

Epic Systems Corporation, based in Verona, Wisconsin, founded by Judy Faulkner in 1979 and privately held, announced the feature at its August 2025 user conference. Epic's later material, and trade press such as Becker's, call the native ambient feature "Chart with Art," part of a family of assistants: Art for clinicians, Penny for revenue cycle and Emmie for patients.

Epic said the feature uses Microsoft's Dragon ambient technology on Azure. An Epic spokesperson described it and Microsoft's Dragon Copilot as "separate products developed in close partnership."

What does it do?

It drafts a note and suggests orders from the clinician and patient conversation. A voice agent lets clinicians adjust the note format. It started in outpatient care and added bedside nursing in March 2026, and coverage from HLTH and Healthcare IT Today in February 2026 listed home care for April. Epic states that every draft note and order needs clinician review before finalization.

It runs on Epic only. No clearance covers charting.

Has anyone measured it?

Epic reports two outcomes. Pediatricians at OLVG in Amsterdam cut note-writing time per appointment by 31%. Sacra cites early adopters at up to 60 minutes saved per day and 26% less after-hours documentation. Both are vendor-side, and neither has been independently published.

KLAS lists Chart with Art on Epic's vendor page with 10 customer responses and a score of 75.0, flagged as a small sample, and the comments are not visible. A May 2026 KLAS item says specialists may find Epic's chart summarization too generic, which concerns a different feature.

How is AI Charting priced?

Module prices are not listed by Epic. Third-party guidance says to expect an organization-specific quote and not to assume it comes bundled with an existing agreement. The per-provider numbers that appear online, $150 to $600 plus implementation, belong to Microsoft Dragon Copilot and are reported by resellers and KLAS. They are not Epic prices.

The verdict

An Epic-based system should put the native option into any ambient scribe comparison, mostly because it removes an integration and keeps orders inside the record. A 31% figure from one Amsterdam pediatric site is thin ground for a purchase decision, so a pilot on the system's own clinicians is the sensible first step. A practice on another EHR has nothing to evaluate here.
