What is Nabla and who sells it?

Nabla was founded in Paris in 2018 by Alexandre Lebrun (CEO), Delphine Groll (COO) and Martin Raison (CTO). A $70M Series C was announced in June 2025, led by HV Capital with Highland Europe, DST Global, Cathay Innovation and Build Collective, bringing total funding to $120M. The previous round was a $24M Series B in January 2024 (Nabla, PR Newswire). Press releases are datelined New York and Dealroom lists Paris.

The homepage now calls the product a "Clinical AI Layer" and claims deployment in more than 130 health organizations, more than 85,000 clinicians and more than 20 million patient encounters a year (nabla.com). All three are vendor figures. The older name, Nabla Copilot, survives at copilot.nabla.com.

What does it do?

Ambient documentation captures the patient conversation and generates structured notes. Dictation is described as clinical-grade speech recognition built into Epic and major EHRs. Coding gives E/M and ICD-10 suggestions grounded in the note and AMA guidelines. Nabla Connect lets partners embed it "in weeks" or go API-first, and organizations can set data retention policies. The French pages list consultation prep, referral letters and patient summaries (nabla.com).

Nabla lists HIPAA, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR on its homepage. Its security page says the program follows the SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 frameworks and holds the associated certifications. Data is hosted on Google Cloud Platform in a region chosen when the organization is created, encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS in transit, with an annual third-party penetration test. That page was last updated in September 2023. A BAA is not published, and no FDA clearance is stated.

For Epic, a third-party summary says Nabla joined Epic Toolbox for ambient voice in October 2025. Integration depth, read versus write-back, is not stated.

What does the evidence say?

A randomized trial in NEJM AI in December 2025 (Vangala, Sarkisian, Mafi and colleagues, DOI 10.1056/AIoa2501000) compared DAX Copilot, Nabla and usual care among 238 outpatient physicians in 14 specialties at a California academic health system. It ran from November 2024 to January 2025 and covered more than 48,000 visits.

Nabla users spent 9.5% less time in notes than the control group (p=.02). DAX Copilot's reduction was 1.7% and not statistically significant. The tools were used in about 29.5% of visits for Nabla and 33.5% for DAX, and about 15% of physicians assigned to a tool never used either. The authors noted clinically significant inaccuracies occasionally.

Beyond that, the vendor says 55% of users save an hour or more daily, a figure a secondary source attributes to a self-reported survey. The health-system quotes on nabla.com, from Carle Health, Denver Health and Tia Health, are chosen by the vendor. Commure, a competitor, says in its review that pricing is unpublished, customization is limited, quality drops on visits with several problems, and coding was still on the roadmap.

How much does Nabla cost?

Nabla lists no price and takes inquiries through a contact form. The terms of sale say fees follow the subscription plan, charged monthly per authorized user in euros excluding VAT, and Nabla may adjust pricing components during a contract. A help-center page reportedly offers each user a 30-day trial. Third-party sites estimate $119 to $239 per clinician per month, likely a stale self-serve price from 2025, and they disagree on the free tier.

How does it compare?

DAX Copilot was the other arm of the trial. Third-party summaries say it was merged with Dragon Medical One into Microsoft's Dragon Copilot in March 2025. For posted prices, Twofold's help page (December 2025) lists a Personal plan at $69 per month billed monthly or $49 per month billed annually, and Freed AI posts Starter, Core and Premier plans on getfreed.ai/pricing, with Starter capped at 40 notes a month.

Who is it for?

It suits a health system with Epic that wants a vendor with randomized evidence, or a product team that wants to embed an ambient scribe through the API. It suits less a solo clinician comparing sticker prices, or anyone who needs written confirmation of a BAA before trying it.

The verdict

Choose Nabla if you run Epic at scale and want a scribe whose randomized trial showed a statistically significant drop in note time. Skip it if you need a published price or a written BAA before a pilot, and expect the gain to depend on uptake, since the tool was used in about 29.5% of visits in the trial.
